💻🐱🐭 The Coding Station

Today, this young star Ocean of Light International Schools wanted to try coding a simple “Cat & Mouse” game at the TWICT booth during the Career Pathways Expo.

The activity was guided by our coding expert Mele Filiai Tonata from WCCC, who is also a proud TWICT member and absolutely loves teaching kids the world of coding and technology.

Seeing young minds excited to create, think, problem-solve, and build their own little games reminds us why exposure to ICT and STEM at an early age matters so much.

Today it was a Cat & Mouse game… tomorrow it could be the next big app, website, or innovation from Tonga Mele Filiai

Girls in ICT Day 2026 was celebrated with heart here in Tonga! 💙💻

Today, TWICT joined the world in celebrating International Girls in ICT Day by welcoming young women from Form 1 and Form 2 from Government Primary Schools, Tonga Side School, Queen Salote College, Beulah College, and ACTS College — creating a space where their potential in technology was seen, encouraged, and celebrated.

Our Guest of Honor, First Secretary Ms. Hannah Briks, opened the day with three powerful questions:

❓ Why Girls in ICT?

❓ Why does it matter for Tonga?

❓ Why does Australia support these events?

We were also honored to hear from A/CEO & Director for Communications, Mr. Stan Ahio, whose heartfelt encouragement reflected his strong support for inclusive digital transformation in Tonga. A warm mālō was also shared by TWICT Board representatives Ms. Pateli Vailea and Ms. Silivia Atiola on behalf of the board and members.

One of the most touching moments came from the talented singers of Beulah College, who performed a beautiful early Mother’s Day dedication for the Women in ICT mothers in the room — reminding us of the love, sacrifice, and strength behind every woman in tech.

💐 Most importantly, our girls had the chance to connect with Women in ICT champions who became mentors for the day. Today planted seeds of confidence, curiosity, and future dreams in technology.

🌱 Mālō ‘aupito to every student, school, partner, government agency, and supporter who helped make today special. Together, we continue to inspire the next generation of girls in ICT.

Digital Literacy & Cyber Safety Campaign in Vava’u (Final session)

We wrapped up our Digital Literacy & Cyber Safety Campaign in Vava’u with one final session — and it did not disappoint This session was all about small business owners — real people doing real work, now stepping up with digital tools to grow smarter. We went hands-on with: ✅ Designing with Canva — from posts to brochures ✅ Using Microsoft Copilot to work faster and smarter ✅ Creating invoices using ready-made templates ✅ Managing and understanding data in Excel ✅ Setting up and improving business pages on Facebook ✅ Building simple, practical tools to support everyday business The energy in the room was real — people learning, asking questions, trying things out, and immediately seeing how technology can support their businesses. This is what it’s about — not just learning tools, but using them to grow, earn, and move forward. Vava’u showed up, leaned in, and delivered 💯 And honestly… it was awesome. COMMUNITY OUTREACH – KOLOA, HAHAKE VAVA’U

As we arrived to Koloa, the Town Officer was already calling out to the village using a speaker to gather for our session — and honestly, it felt like stepping back into the old golden days of Tonga. That sense of community? Still strong. Still alive. Walking into the town hall, one thing stood out — Starlink was already set up. Even in the most remote places, connectivity has arrived. The real question now is: are we ready to use it safely? We were joined by elders, the Town Officer, parents, police officers, the school principal, and church leaders — a full community effort Our session focused on online safety and responsible use of internet access, especially with tools like Starlink now in the village. We shared the “Confident & Connected” resources (in Tongan) by NetSafe, guiding open and honest discussions around: 🔹 Staying safe online 🔹 Protecting families and children 🔹 Understanding risks and real-life situations What made this session powerful? The people. For over 2 hours, the community shared real experiences, asked genuine questions, and leaned into the conversation. No filters. Just real talanoa. This is what impact looks like — not just training in rooms, but reaching people where they are. 🙏🏽 Mālō ‘aupito to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for making this opportunity possible — allowing us to reach communities like Koloa and continue this important work. It was emotional. It was powerful. It was real. We cried. We laughed. We shared stories that truly touched the heart. Women from different walks of life came together — giving their time, their experiences, their truth. That’s what “Give To Gain” is all about. When we give — our voice, our support, our knowledge — we lift each other higher. Today wasn’t just a panel. It was connection. It was strength. It was women standing together and reminding each other that we are not alone. TWICT Little Library Corner

A Small Dream, now a Reality
Early this morning, we had a beautiful soft launch of our TWICT Little Library Corner — and honestly, it was one of those moments that just hits you right in the heart.
This special space was made possible through the generosity of the CEO of BSP, connecting us with the Kings Langley Lions Club in Australia. What started as a simple idea has now become something real, something meaningful.
At TWICT, we’ve always been more than just a workspace — we are a learning hub for everyone. Many times, mothers come to attend trainings and bring their children along… and now, those kids have a space of their own. A space to read, learn, and grow while their mums are building new technical skills.
And let’s be real — that’s exactly how you build a stronger future. 💡
Learning doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens together.
This initiative was sparked during a visit from BSP’s CEO, who shared her vision of creating a children’s corner here in Tonga. Today, we’re proud to say that vision is alive.
We were also honoured to have representatives from DFAT and TASP join us — our key partners who continue to support and believe in the work TWICT is doing across Tonga.
This is just the beginning.
Small steps. Real impact. Big future. 🚀

CONFIDENT & CONNECTED – A BIG WIN FOR OUR OLDER CITIZENS

The Confident and Connected program for older citizens was a huge success and let’s be clear, this didn’t happen by accident. This was a true team effort. Big appreciation to our partners who made this possible: Netsafe NZ, CERT Tonga, Samsung, Wantok, and Broadcom FM 87.5 We had a full house — senior citizens turning up eager to learn, asking questions, and openly sharing their experiences online. Even though this session was designed for elderlies, we were encouraged to see youth, members of the disability community, the sign language community, NGOs, and many others joining in. That’s what inclusion actually looks like. The sessions were led by CERT Tonga and Tonga Women in ICT, with Ms Brenda Atoa doing an outstanding job handling a LOT of questions (and trust us, there were many 😄). One highlight? 👉 Senior citizens taking part in an AI icebreaker — they enjoyed it… and also admitted it made them more confused 😂. That honesty is gold. Learning starts exactly there. Australian High Commission in review their Gender Equality Bilateral Programs

Tonga Women in ICT is pleased to engage with the Australian High Commission in Tonga as they undertake a review of their gender equality bilateral programs. This review is an important moment — taking stock of what has worked, what hasn’t, and where we go next in strengthening gender equality investments in Tonga.
We value the opportunity for open dialogue with colleagues from DFAT and the independent consultant. These conversations matter. Real progress doesn’t come from reports alone — it comes from listening to lived experience, community voices, and partners who have been in the work for years.
TWICT looks forward to contributing our reflections, knowledge, and on-the-ground experience to help shape the future direction of gender equality efforts in Tonga. Partnerships built on trust, honesty, and shared vision are how real change happens.

Aligning Grassroots Action with National Digital Transformation
Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) welcomed the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) team to our office to talanoa on practical collaboration opportunities to support Tonga’s digital transformation.
Much of the work TWICT is already delivering at community level directly aligns with MCC’s core focus areas — digital literacy, cyber safety and cyber security awareness, digital inclusion, and the empowerment of women and youth. This includes reaching outer islands, vulnerable groups, and communities often left behind in the digital shift.
With Tonga selected for the MCC Threshold Program (August 2025) — bringing an estimated USD $30–40 million in support — the timing is right to strengthen how grassroots initiatives can complement national systems, policy reform, and digital governance efforts.
The visit by MCC Director Mr. Nilan Fernando and his team, discussions focused on how TWICT can support this work into the future — ensuring investments translate into real skills, safer online spaces, and inclusive access to technology for all Tongans.
Digital transformation only works when it’s inclusive, secure, and built from the ground up.

Our young people were full of curiosity, asking questions and exploring how weather, rainfall, and cyclones are monitored. 🌧️🌪️ The weather forecast station was a big hit — the techy equipment and real-time data really captured their imagination. Who knows, in the next 3–5 years, some of these students might be the very ones working at Meteorology Tonga! 🙌🏽

Massive mālō ‘aupito to Director Laitia Fifita and your team for hosting us and inspiring the next generation. 🌏💻 Australia in Tonga Tonga National University - 'Univesiti Fakafonua 'a Tonga Laitia Fifita #YoungProfessionals #FutureLeaders #ClimateResilience #TWICT

TASP Climate Change Workshop

TWICT is always happy to take part in Capacity Building opportunities!
Since our work also focuses heavily on Business Continuity Plans and ICT for Disaster Preparedness, the TASP Climate Change Workshop was a valuable space for us. Etiola Niuma joined this session from TWICT.
This workshop was both a reflection and progression point—giving grantees the chance to:
🔹 Review lessons learned from implementation so far
🔹 Consolidate knowledge on climate integration
🔹 Identify practical entry points for action at operational, programmatic, and policy/advocacy levels
Mālō ‘aupito to the organizers and fellow grantees for such an enriching talanoa 🙌

Day 2 | STEMtastic Adventures with Young Pacific Leaders 🌺

An inspiring final session for Day 2 at the Young Pacific Leaders Symposium, held in the Lecture Theatre at FNU Namaka Campus, Nadi 🇫🇯 Moderated by Talei from the #InspirationSTEMGirls, the session was panelled by Oliana Nagayo and Mere Koroivosa from FJ STEAM PRINCESS – and we were honored to hear from an amazing lineup of women leading the way in STEM across the Pacific: 👩🏽‍💻 Sagufta Janif – Country Director, Women in Tech Fiji 👩🏽‍💻 Juliet Horihau – EdTech Specialist, Women in ICT Solomon Islands (WITSI) 💛 Mele Tavake – Our very own Cyber Security Officer & IT Coordinator at Tonga Women in ICT (TWICT) 👩🏾‍💼 …and many more powerful voices advocating for women and girls in tech! Mele shared her journey as a STEM Champion in Tonga, working with kids to make them fall in love with STEM and showing ways we can inspire more girls to step up as future champions. 🌟 A powerful and empowering wrap-up to an unforgettable few days. 🌐💡🌺 We’re proud to see our young women representing at the regional level 🙌 – the same two who run fun Saturday STEM sessions in Tonga are now shining across the Pacific. 🌊✨ #STEMtastic #WomenInTech #YoungPacificLeaders #TWICT #FJSTEAMPrincess #WITSI #WITFiji #CyberSecurity #STEMGirls

To Highlight:

Session 1- Thematic grouping: Climate and Conservation Education Finafinau; Community Engagement in American Samoa, Sierra Fata, Communications Specialist, and Aicylle Calibuso, Youth Leader The TWICT team has always been among the youngest in the room at every conference we’ve attended, but today we witnessed something truly inspiring—a 16-year-old girl from American Samoa taking the stage at STEMtastic Adventures. She was not only the youngest participant, but the confidence with which she spoke on behalf of her village and her nation was remarkable. We look forward to seeing more young people like her rise in the future, proving that it’s never too early to step up and represent. Your voice deserves to be heard across the Pacific, shaping a better world. "Let your vision be world-embracing, rather than confined to your own self"

TWICT’s annual Power House 2025

Heavy rain and roaring lightning didn’t stop us tonight! TWICT’s annual Power House went ahead in full force – and what a night it was! This event is all about creating a safe and powerful space for young people to share ideas, motivate and be motivated. Tonight, we heard: 🎓 Inspiring scholarship experiences from a recent returnee. 💼 Honest and practical tips from an entrepreneur. 🔥 A TWICT member’s story of running on passion to drive skill and work right here in Tonga. But that wasn’t all. We held a SHARK THINK TANK – where ideas for Tonga were put on the table, tested, torn apart, criticized, and rebuilt stronger. That’s the kind of powerful collaboration we need to shape the future. A huge mālō ‘aupito to everyone who braved the rain to join us. Empowering the Future | Beulah Business Week x TWICT

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain…” – Psalm 127:1

Today, our Chairlady, Dr. Tangikina Moimoi Steen, had the honor of speaking at Beulah College’s Business Week. Though her career has taken her abroad, her heart remains in Tonga — and she returned home to inspire the next generation. ✨

Her message centered on Psalm 127:1 with two key lessons:

1️⃣ Build with purpose, character, and integrity.

2️⃣ Watch over what you’ve built, seeking wisdom and God’s guidance.

She encouraged students to live with faith and values, shared her own journey from humble beginnings to international academia, and celebrated Beulah’s legacy — where her mother once studied. Three sharp students even won flash drives after answering her scripture challenge! 💡 To close, Dr. Tangikina presented the school with a $500 donation and flyers to motivate students to keep striving. From all of us at TWICT — we’re grateful for her leadership and proud of her example of giving back to Tonga. 🇹🇴💻💙 #TWICT #BeulahBusinessWeek #FaithAndFuture #WomenInICT #LeadershipWithHeart #TonganPride

TWICT at #PacificCyberWeek & #P4C

This week, Tonga Women in ICT had the honor of joining Pacific leaders and experts — including the Minister of Police & MPE, the Attorney General of Tonga, and the Director of CERT Tonga — at the Partners in the Blue Pacific (P4C) conference during Pacific Cyber Week.
We also had the opportunity to attend several sessions at the Pacific Fibre Conference, gaining insights on the digital transformation happening across the Pacific — knowledge we’re excited to bring back home.
Together, we amplified powerful Pacific voices calling for:
1️⃣ Less talk, more tools – real equipment, licences, and infrastructure to defend against cyberattacks.
2️⃣ Collaboration from the start
3️⃣ Stronger social media regulation – holding global platforms accountable.
4️⃣ Dignity in defence – building our own capacity to respond without relying solely on outside help.
5️⃣ Shared responsibility – all partners stepping up equally.
6️⃣ Tangible outcomes – leaving with practical tools we can use.
7️⃣ Cyber sovereignty – laws, skills, and systems rooted in our local context.
💡 The takeaway is clear: A safer, more resilient Pacific requires practical, sustainable, locally owned solutions — not just tick-box workshops.
Mālō ‘aupito to our Pacific partners for standing together to strengthen the region’s cyber resilience and security.

Gratitude Post

TWICT is so happy and truly grateful to DCCP-Pacific and The Cadmus Group for providing laptops to Tonga Women in ICT.
Since our engagement began in 2023, we’ve been privileged to walk alongside DCCP-Pacific as a sub-contractor, supporting initiatives such as:
✨ Cyber hygiene awareness
✨ Digital upskilling
✨ Digital Skills Gap Assessment
Through this partnership, one thing has become very clear — sustainable development in the Pacific is only possible when local people are equipped with the tools, skills, and opportunities to lead change from within.
We are proud that DCCP-Pacific has been intentional about supporting local capacity and resources. From day one, they welcomed us into the decision-making process, ensuring Pacific voices and Pacific expertise shaped the outcomes.
Mālō ‘aupito to DCCP-Pacific for trusting local champions here in Tonga.

TWICT Wins 2025 Women in Tech Award at WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards

Tonga Women in ICT Inc. (TWICT) just made waves in the Asia-Pacific by being recognized with a 2025 Women in Tech Award at the WITSA Global ICT Excellence Awards in Taipei.

The 2025 WITSA Awards had a huge pool of highly qualified nominees from across the globe. While we weren’t selected as the top category winners, TWICT was honored as a Merit Award recipient — proving that community-driven innovation from the Pacific can stand shoulder to shoulder with the best in the world. Even though we couldn’t afford to pick up our recognition plaque and award in person, we proudly sent in our video and joined the event virtually. It’s a reminder that while resources may be limited, our vision, impact, and commitment to empowering women in ICT are limitless.

This recognition belongs to every woman, youth, and community member in Tonga who believes in the power of tech for change. Malo ‘aupito to our partners and supporters who continue to walk this journey with us.
